How to Get to Tigoni from Nairobi

Tigoni is one of those places that feels far from the city but really isn't. It sits in the cool highlands of Limuru, about 25 kilometres north-west of Nairobi - close enough for a spontaneous day out, high enough that the air turns crisp and the roadsides go green with tea.

By car (about 45 minutes)

The simplest route is up Limuru Road and onto the A104 (Waiyaki Way / Nairobi–Nakuru highway), then turning off towards Limuru and Tigoni. Traffic depends on the time of day - leave Nairobi before 8am or after 9am to miss the worst of it, and give yourself around 45 minutes to an hour.

Once you climb past Kikuyu and Limuru town, the tarmac gives way to tea estates and forest lanes. Some of the farm and waterfall access roads are murram (dirt) and can be slippery after rain, so a car with decent clearance helps in the wet season.

By matatu

From the Nairobi CBD, take a matatu towards Limuru. From Limuru town you can grab a boda boda (motorbike taxi) or a local matatu the last stretch to the specific farm, café or trailhead. It's budget-friendly, though a little slower and less direct than driving.
